The suspicion is that the pyramid scheme was used to launder cocaine money. The amazing thing to read about was how many ordinary Colombians, dependent on the scheme for income, were violently upset by the arrest of its founder.
El Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE) incluirá la declaración de David Murcia en el proceso de investigación sobre la posible violación de los topes en la financiación del proyecto de referendo reeleccionista. La solicitud de aceptar el testimonio del creador de DMG dentro del proceso la hizo el apoderado de la asociación Colombia Primero, organización integrada por varios de los promotores del referendo investigados.
The National Election Commission (CNE) will include a testimony by David Murcia in its investigation into possible violations by the campaign to reelect Uribe. The request to accept the testimony by the founder of DMG as part of the case came from a representative of Colombia First, an organization to which a number of the referendum advocates under investigation belong.
El magistrado José Joaquin Vives, quien es el encargado de investigar si los promotores de la iniciativa (que busca que se consulte a la ciudadanía si quiere que el presidente Álvaro Uribe se presente a una nueva candidatura) violaron los topes legales de la financiación, decidió aceptar la petición de su abogado este jueves.

La citación en la que las autoridades escucharán a Murcia está programada para el próximo martes a las 8 de la mañana en la Cárcel La Picota de Bogotá, sitio donde está recluido el cerebro de DMG.

Esta noticia de da tras la publicación que hizo la revista Cambio de una entrevista en la que David Murcia asegura que la empresa DMG, intervenida por el gobierno, aportó 5 mil millones de pesos a la logística de la recolección de firmas que respaldan el referendo.

“Se hizo lo del transporte de las firmas que eso vale un dinero porque es a nivel nacional. Hubo que utilizar aviones, helicópteros, transporte blindado, etc., y también aprobé unos recursos para que compraran camisetas, gorras y un poco de papelería que necesitaban”, dijo Murcia, quien está en proceso de juzgamiento por el delito de lavado de activos, enriquecimiento ilícito y captación masiva de dinero.

There was the use of planes, helicopters, armored cars, etc., and I also approved funds for the purchase of T-shirts, caps and some pamphlets that they needed,” said Murcia, who is on trial for money laundering, illicit enrichment and receipt of mass deposits.
En declaraciones al diario El Espectador, el abogado de Murcia ratificó la versión del creador de DMG. “Creo que la investigación debe empezar por Palacio. Al respecto tienen información el señor Jose Obdulio Gaviria, Luis Guillermo Giraldo y el mismo Presidente”, señaló Salazar.
In statements to the El Espectador newspaper, Murcia’s lawyer corroborate his client’s statements. “I believe the investigation should start at the presidential palace. We have information that there was Gaviria, Giraldo, and the President himself,” said Salazar.
Ante las declaraciones de Murcia, los promotores de la iniciativa y el ex asesor presidencial Gaviria salieron en varios medios de comunicación a desmentir la participación de DMG en los aportes.
In the face of Murcia’s statements, propoents of reelection and former presidential aide Gaviria have appeared in the media denying that DMG participated in donations.
Las declaraciones de Murcia serán tenidas en cuenta en la investigación que abrió hace unos días el CNE para determinar si los promotores del referendo reeleccionista violaron o no los topes de financiación.
Murcia’s statements will be taken into account in the investigation opened days ago by the CNE to determine whether proponents of the reelection referendum did or did not violate campaign finance law.
La participación de DMG en la financiación del referendo fue denunciada el año pasado por el representante Germán Navas, del Polo, mientras la iniciativa se discutía en la Cámara. Entre la contabilidad de los promotores del referendo figuran 4,7 millones de pesos donados por la empresa Transval, que fue una empresa creada por DMG para transportar su dinero.
The role played by DMG in financing the referendum was denounced last year by Rep. Navas of the Alternative Democratic Pole as the referendum was being debated in the lower house. The accounting records of the referendum’s promoters include 4.7 million pesos donated by Transval, a firm created by DMG to transport its cash.
