Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
Case in point: In the last several years, my once-passable Arabic has never been dusted off and taken for a walk in the park.
I have here, however, my two extremely worn-out copies of Hans Wehr, Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic (Special Language Services, Inc., 1976.)
Perhaps with its loyal assistance I can read the editorials of Egypt Independent — Al-Misry Al-Yawm — fast and reliably enough to be able to list Arabic as a service of mine again soon.
As for Arabic, I remember being motivated to try to help the FBI after 9-11 as a translator — another year of the crash course and I could have been highly capable — but it turned out I smoked too much pot back in the early 1980s.
But no matter: I would probably have suffered the same fate as Sibel Edmonds, who blew the whistle on the urgent translated report received just before 9-11
Oh, and on another topic: I believe my Web server has been hacked by one of them there SQL injection invasions. Just look:
Somebody used something called bootback and attached it to a huge number of fake e–mail users on my server.
