Brasília – President Dilma Rousseff has issued a note announging a delay in her state visit to the US. in October.

Accordng to this statement, “bearing in mind the imminence of the visit to Washington, and in the absence of a timely explanation of [indications that the NSA spied on Petrobras] with the appropriate promises to cease intellegence activities — the conditions for the agreed-upon date of our meeting are not present.

According to the official note, the decision was made by the two president — Dilma Rousseff and Barack Obama. “Thus, both presidents decided to delay the state visit, since the results of this visit should not depend on an issue a satisfactory answer to which Brazil has yet to receive,” the note, delivered by presidential spokesperson  added Thomas Traumann.

“The Brazilian government trusts that once the matter is resolved in an appropriate manner, the state visit will occur as soon as possible and will have a positive effect on the construction of our strategic partnership and issues of the highest importance. “

It will be interesting to see how the neocon junkyard dogs back gome respond to this news, or whether they are paying attention at all. Brazil has proven recalcitrant to a Syrian adverture in the same vein as Iraq, for example. This country is packed with Syrians and Lebanese and their descendants, who knew? I once translated an Arabic chronicle of a small Lebanse village all of whose young men migrated here to became mascates.
