Petrobras TV Spot on YouTube

As I mentioned the other day, it is always odd for a stranger in a strange to run across government and government-related spending on advertisement — Sabesp is one of the principal sponsors, but also seems to draw more negative commentaries.

Petrobras is another instance, with a TV campaign currently running that makes an indirect reference to its current governance problems. The narration:

Overcoming challenges: since the beginning of our history, this has been our watchword. In the distant past,, when they said there was no petroleum in Brazil, our people showed the world that it did. And that it was ours.

Decade after decade, challenge after challenge, we carried on. Recently, we made a discovery that surprised the world: the pre-salt layer. Now our challenges are different, and in response we are perfecting our corporate governance and compliance.

Whatever the challenge is, our best response will always be the watchword under which we began: overcoming.

This is Petrobras. Yesterday, today and always overcoming challenges. All challenges.

The spot received 4,000 click-throughs.  With more than 500,000 views, an extremely professional parody of the Petrobras campaign and its argument offers a complex critique of the TV campaign. Who is the immediate author? Who banks the immediate author.
